Third Grade: April 26 - 30

The third-grade class finished up a final language block based on Native American Creation stories this past week.  The indigenous people of our land had so many wonderful stories of how the world, and the things in it, came to be, and there are so many more still left to share and enjoy!  We continued with dictation.  The class rose to the challenge and were successful in their work.  The dictations were self-corrected and transcribed onto the back of their paintings.  We reviewed many conventions of spelling and introduced new ones.

Our new block focuses on reviewing simple multiplication and division facts and introducing multi-digit multiplication and long division.  Many students are still developing their skills and immediate recall of basic math facts.  Therefore, our lessons overall will focus on reinforcing these basic facts and skills.  Games are such a fun way to learn, practice, and increase our recall of facts, and we will have as much fun with games as our time allows.  Spelling and grammar lessons will move to our early morning slot during our final math block.

The weather was warm and sunny last week, and we could get in an extra creek visit. We will continue to do so as often as we can as we come to the close of the school year.  As we will be in session later in the calendar year than we have before, we will embrace the hotter days and play more in the much cooler forest and in the creek.  The mosquitos are also enjoying the warming trend; please send bug spray!

We finished our class auction project this week, with students sanding, staining, and doing a little bit of leaf-print painting too!  Thank you so very much to Candace and family (especially to Paw-Paw for the generous donation of his time, skill and lumber!) for helping to make our class project idea into a reality.

Please join us this Friday if you are able. We are looking forward to seeing you on Friday evening to preview all the wonderful items that will be auctioned. You can purchase your tickets here to pick a time slot. All participants, whether joining us in person or online, will require a ticket to bid! Bidding starts Friday at 5:30 PM and ends Saturday at 12:00 PM. The proceeds benefit our school and therefore our entire school community.  Your participation in our first annual school auction is boundlessly appreciated!

With gratitude,

Melissa
