Second Grade: First Week of School

Dear Second-Grade families,

Welcome to your second-grade class! It will be so wonderful to be back together on campus once again at our new start date. We have an exciting new space awaiting us in the forest to learn and play. Our combined second and third-grade class will share three beautiful pavilions by the creek, formerly the kindergarten classrooms, that provide ample space for our two grades to attend combined and separate classes. Our inside classroom will be the same classroom we had last year, the Daylily Room on the second floor. But first and foremost, we will spend as much time as we can in our outdoor classrooms by the creek and visit our garden, the playground, and the creek.

After immersing into the world of fairy tales, the second graders will now learn about a variety of Golden Legends, stories of holy men and women from various countries, such as Saint Patrick and Santa Lucia.  Saint George and the Dragon will be a story highlight for the Day of Courage in the fall. In contrast to these stories of goodness, the students will also hear Fables from around the world, in which animals display more earthly human qualities! We will deepen our understanding of the four mathematical processes (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) through a variety of games, activities as well as word problems. The second grade will share the morning circle and some of the specialty classes with the third grade. It will be an exciting year for all of us!

I cannot wait to meet you at our meet and greet on Tuesday ( 9:00 - 10:30 a.m) and our first day of school on Wednesday!

With gratitude,

Ki Gaby
