Third Grade: First Week of School

Dear Third-Grade families,

Welcome to your third-grade class! It will be so wonderful to be back together on campus once again at our new start date. We have an exciting new space awaiting us in the forest to learn and play. Our combined third and second-grade class will share three beautiful pavilions by the creek, formerly the kindergarten classrooms, that provide ample space for our two grades to attend combined and separate classes. Our inside classroom will be the same classroom we had last year, the Daylily Room on the second floor. But first and foremost, we will spend as much time as we can in our outdoor classrooms by the creek and visit our garden, the playground, and the creek.

After exploring the world of holy people and fables, the third graders will now immerse in Hebrew creation myths, from the seven days of creation to Moses leading his people through the desert. The students will also hear creation stories from other parts of the world, including a variety of Native American creation stories. In math, we will fortify our understanding of the four mathematical processes.  We will focus on memorizing the basic multiplication facts and explore measurement, time, and money. This year will also be a practical year for our third graders. Taking care of the garden and the animals, working with fibers, and building shelters will require a lot of hands-on engagement.  The third graders will share the morning circle and some of the specialty classes with the second grade. It will be an exciting year for all of us!

I cannot wait to meet you at our meet and greet on Tuesday ( 9:00 - 10:30 a.m) and our first day of school on Wednesday!

With gratitude,

Ki Gaby
