Dear second-Grade Families,
After two days of remote learning, the students were happy to be back at school for the beginning of fall on Wednesday of this week. The students had a good workout outside, helping the third-grade with gardening chores at the farm and going to Games and Movement with Ki Shannon. This week was all about being courageous and overcoming challenges. In language arts, we talked about Saint Jerome taming a lion and St. George taming the Dragon. In phonics, we spoke about the magic e at the end of a word that makes the preceding vowel sound like the vowel's name. Together, the students wrote down words and studied how they would change with the magic e at the end. The students all have worked hard on remembering their part of the Day of Courage verse which we recited together in our morning circle on Friday.
On Friday, the students each decorated a shield with their crest for the Day of Courage. Then, they found swords (a.k.a sticks) in the forest and fought against the Dragon. Also, on Friday, the students saw a deer had come up to our outdoor classroom. When the deer retreated into the marsh, we followed the deer tracks in the mud to see where it went. From now on, we will be on the lookout for the deer and hope it will visit us soon near our outdoor pavilion!
Please remember:
Dress in layers for cool mornings and warm afternoons.
Send rainwear and rainboots to school.
Enjoy the fall break!
I am looking forward to meeting you again after the break to enjoy the beautiful fall weather at the Garden School.
Best,
Ki Gaby
