Third/ Fourth Grade: October 17-21, 2022

Dear Third- and Fourth- Grade Parents,

This past week the students practiced writing to prompts made up only of a short list of words. While the students wrote, they helped each other with spelling. Challenging words were written onto the board for the whole class to utilize in their writing as needed. The students used their imaginations to creatively write anything from paragraphs to short stories. The class will continue writing regularly in this manner, practicing spelling rules and patterns as we go. The students read their books from home when we have free time to read during class. If your child has not yet brought in a book for individual reading, please send one by Friday.

Bringing our grains block to an end, the students tasted whole rye bread with butter and a malted barley beverage. Last Thursday and Friday, the class worked with Mr. Matan to create a new path through the forest to access the foreign language classroom at the pond. They worked up a healthy hunger which was stilled by preparing and cooking a vegetable soup with kale from the garden and other vegetables from home on Friday. In woodwork, the fourth-grade students are learning how to handle an ax and split firewood, which helps them to meet greater responsibilities as they grow.

SAVE THE DATE: On the evening of Wednesday, November 9th, the fourth and fifth-grade classes will lend a musical accompaniment to the Lantern Walk.  Arrival for fourth grade is 5:30 pm for ukulele tuning, practice, and placement along the path.

Our class will host the bracelet booth at the Kingdom of Halloween on Saturday. I will be there to support the parents who have signed up to run the booth. If you have not done so, please sign up for a spot to help out that evening. Thank you.
