Second Grade: October 17-21, 2022

Dear Second Grade Families,

Happy Tuesday! This week is our final week in our current math block. We have been using 12 circles and yarn to make beautiful and intricate designs to lean into our times tables work. During this block, we have heard several stories about the trickster spider Anansi from Africa. Students especially loved a story last week called “The Bean Feast.” Anansi steals all the beans on the farm, and oh! does he ever get caught! Second grades particularly love these tales of mischief! We continued daily mental math, phonics practice, and bean bag activities for motor development. Next week, we will begin our second language arts block of the year. We will continue working with long vowel sounds, more complex spelling patterns, and building sight word knowledge.

We celebrated Violet’s birthday in class- happy birthday Violet! Our class shared what makes Violet a special part of our school family. Her peers adore how she asks good questions and is so curious, helps fix problems, and always gets balls down when they are stuck!
