Hello First Grade Families,
It is hard to believe that another week has come to an end. We spent the past week reviewing and reinforcing what we have learned so far this year. We began by recalling what happened in our story of the Prince on his journey and the letters we met during his adventures. The students worked together to bring the story back to life for each other. During our morning circle time, as well as during main lesson, we practiced our letter sound/recognition for the letters we have met so far. Together they created short words following the CVC pattern (consonant-vowel-consonant) by putting sounds together. For example, we built the words cat, dog, dad, mom, and pet, just to name a few. We also took some time to enjoy our pumpkin seeds - savory and sweet flavored.
Next week we will continue the journey of the Prince as more letters of our alphabet are introduced while continuing to practice word recognition. The class is excited to see what is in store for our Prince and all the new challenges and characters he may encounter. We will enjoy all we are learning and doing in our many specialty classes throughout the week.
Please join us for our Lantern Walk on Wednesday, November 9th at 6:30 pm. The lantern walk is a contemplative walk. In the darkness of November, the first to third-grade will slowly process through the candle-lit forest, singing lantern songs and holding their shining lanterns while the fourth and fifth grades play music for them. The lanterns are a reminder that each of us can be a light for others and share our gifts. Take your time to talk about the contemplative nature of the lantern walk before you arrive at the school, and practice singing at home. All the lantern songs are posted on the messenger for you so we can enjoy this festival singing together. Additionally, as part of our school's efforts to help others, we will be collecting gently used coats both at the lantern walk and at drop-off and pick-up that week. The coats will be donated to One Warm Coat, an organization that provides coats for those who need them during the coming cold.
Thank you all for joining in the fun and work that makes our Kingdom of Halloween celebration a success!
