First Grade: October 31- November 4, 2022

 Hello First Grade Families,

This week we continued to work on our three letter word (C-V-C) patterns.  While we added new CVC words to our reading vocabulary, we also spent time recognizing repeated words (also known as high-frequency words) from our story like king, queen, prince, wise and woman, to name a few.  It’s exciting for the students to discover they can recognize and read a word!

We also practiced “sight words" which are words that do not follow typical phonetic patterns and therefore cannot be sounded out.  These words, such as “of” or “you” have to be memorized and in doing so, reading becomes easier and students can focus on figuring out words that make sense to sound out.

This week we will continue adding both high-frequency and sight words to our existing list.  We will include more words from our story, and we will also be drawing more characters from our story.  Additionally, our class will enjoy getting ready for the lantern walk.

It's hard to imagine that November is already here.  The students are doing well staying on task even with the excitement of upcoming holidays.
