Dear Fourth Grade Families,
The class continued working with fractions last week. We learned more about proper fractions and how to identify them using pictures and number lines. Using these tools, we then learned about improper fractions, mixed numbers, and equivalent fractions. The students began to understand how to simplify or reduce fractions, and added and subtracted fractions with common denominators. We are working steadily in our Key To Fractions workbooks to complement the lessons and will continue to work in these books for the remainder of the school year. This week, we will continue with more fraction fun including finding common denominators and simplifying fractions.
This past week, the students spent a period in the garden turning the soil for planting in the coming weeks. The current third grade class is a smaller group, so our class will be stepping in to support their endeavors throughout the coming months. It was a lot of fun and they worked together successfully completing the task. We ended the week by planting daffodil bulbs around the perimeter of the garden and around Liza’s Loom. Please make sure your child has proper footwear each day for working in the farm and playing in the forest.
