Dear Parents,
This past week, our class began a new math block, concentrating on linear measurement. Like in ancient times, the students used their own bodies to measure the length of objects and distances in inches, spans, cubits, yards, fathoms, and feet. It soon became clear to the students that individual measurements differ from person to person, which can lead to confusion and arguments, especially when trading with goods. This week, we will explore standard measurements and measure longer distances outdoors.
During morning circle with the second grade, the students are learning to recite the poem The Blind Men and the Elephant by Godfrey Saxe while passing beanbags to each other.
Reminders:
This week is Conference Week: Early release on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Next week is Mid-Winter break. No school February 21-25th.
Remember to apply sunscreen on sunny days or send in a sunhat.
Warm regards,
Gaby Farrokhi
