Dear Third-Grade Parents,
With a teacher workday on Friday, last week went by quickly.
The Third Grade has now entered a shelter and housing block. Starting with cave dwellings, the students learn all about various types of homes that humans have built since ancient times with materials from their natural environment to take shelter from the heat and cold and protect themselves from other influences from the outside world. At the end of the block, students will go home to build a model dwelling of their choice. They will receive their assignments in the week before spring break to have ample time to gather materials, assemble their projects at home, and write about them. A week after the break, the class will display their projects in an exhibition at the school.
Every year, the third-grade students not only study buildings; they also actively build a structure with their own hands, using tools like saws, hammers, and nails. The students learn new practical skills and work successfully as a team. This year the third-grade students have built a wooden climbing gym for the goats. They put the finishing touches on it this past week. Ki Derek reports that the goats have already made ample use of the gym over the weekend. Thank you again to Max’s dad and uncle for all their help!
Ki Ieva has arranged a field trip to AB Farm and Gardens (abfarmandgardens.com) in Canton, GA, on March 25 to supplement our fibers and fabrics block. During our visit, the students will watch an Angora goat shearing. The class will leave at 9:00 am on March 25. We are looking for one parent chaperone. If you are interested in joining us, please reach out to me.
Reminders:
Saturday, March 19th, is a Community Workday.
Friday, April 1 is Grandfriend’s Day.
Stay tuned for messages from our class parent, Kristi Hess, for opportunities to help the class with our spring auction project.
Warm regards,
Gaby Farrokhi
