Second Grade: March 7 - 11

Dear Second-Grade Parents,

With a teacher workday on Friday, last week went by quickly. The students enjoyed having a new classmate and welcoming a visiting student into the class for a couple of days.

The Second Grade has now returned to a short language arts block about saints and heroic people. Last week was dedicated to Saint Francis, who is known for his caring relationship with animals. In one story, Saint Francis tames a wolf that later becomes the town's pet and guardian. The class used the opportunity to share stories about their beloved pets and to make their pets with modeling beeswax. The students also painted Saint Francis and the Wolf with watercolors. This week we will look at heroic people from all over the world.

During form drawing class, the students have been mirroring lines horizontally and vertically. The students rise to the challenge as their form drawings become more and more complex. With repeated practice, fine motor skills and spatial orientation on the paper have developed tremendously in the second-grade class over the past few months.

Reminders:

  • Saturday, March 19th, is a Community Workday.

  • Friday, April 1, is Grandfriend’s Day.

  • Stay tuned for messages from our class parent, Kristi Hess, for opportunities to help the class with our spring auction project.

Warm regards,

Gaby Farrokhi
