Dear Second-Grade Parents,
Last week in math, the students finished studying patterns of multiplication tables. Comparing the last digits of the 2,4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 tables side by side, they found predictable, recurring patterns for multiples of even numbers. When they compared the 3 and 7 tables, they discovered a complementary pattern. The students had a lot of fun looking at the multiplication tables in this exploratory and playful way. It will not only help them to memorize the multiplication tables over time but also spur their interest in further mathematical explorations.
On Friday, the class enjoyed the sunny and warm spring weather and the first creekcess of the season. It was refreshing for the students to go down to the creek and enjoy playing with mud and sand and using rocks to rebuild the dam they had built the previous year. While playing at the creek, the students found a spiny softshell turtle hiding in the sand that swam away to the other shore.
The combined second and third grade is happy to welcome our new student, Lyra, to third grade! She recently moved to the Atlanta area with her mom and visited our class last week.
