Dear Third-Grade Parents,
The past week our third-grade students were busy outdoors. On the farm, they started building a climbing gym for the goats with the help of Max's dad and uncle. All students were enthusiastically sawing the wood and nailing the pieces together. It won't take long until the goats can enjoy their new gym.
In math, the students finished their block on linear measurement by revisiting the twelve multiplication tables and measuring how tall they were in inches. We recorded the measurements on the board and then calculated the combined height of the whole class. When the students added their measurements, they kept in mind that they were not working within the metric system. The students figured it equals 504 inches or 42 feet, or 14 yards.
On Friday, the class enjoyed the sunny and warm spring weather and the first creekcess of the season. It was refreshing for the students to go down to the creek and enjoy playing with mud and sand and using rocks to rebuild the dam they had built the previous year. While playing, the students found a spiny softshell turtle hiding in the sand that swam away to the other shore.
The combined second and third grade is happy to welcome our new student, Lyra, to third grade! She recently moved to the Atlanta area with her mom and visited our class last week.
Reminders:
Friday, March 11, is a teacher workday, and there is NO SCHOOL.
Apply sunscreen and wear sun hats.
Bring two filled water bottles daily.
We will soon start working on our class project for the school auction. Please stay tuned for information from Kristi Hess about how you can contribute.
Warm regards,
