Kindergarten Turtles: August 15-19

Greetings Turtle Families!

This week flew by!  Our first full week of school was very busy and so much fun!  This week we began with our first weekly painting class.  In Kindergarten, the students begin by experiencing one color at a time; this week we painted with the color yellow. We had fun spending time in our indoor classroom while painting and enjoyed  our first shared snack of  oatmeal together.  Tuesday, we chopped vegetables and on Thursday we enjoyed the delicious vegetable soup.  The students did well peeling and chopping and were proud to see and share the soup they helped prepare.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had tea with our snack.  With all of these shared snacks and drinks, there are lots of dishes and laundry and the children have been learning many practical work tasks as they help to clean up after themselves.  Each student washed their own dish and spoon each day.  In the afternoons, laundry helpers washed the laundry and hung it on the clothesline to dry.  The children are eager to help and take pride in their work.

Also this week, we had a wonderful time playing in the creek for creekcess on Wednesday and Thursday.  The children explored the water and the creek shore, finding river rocks and digging and building in the sand.  Back at basecamp, the children continue to develop friendships and it is beautiful to see how they play together.  They are becoming great climbers on the climbing dome and have established a digging area.  They also like to spend some time playing on our platform and sharing in some handwork projects offered there.  We began finger chaining and finger knitting this week and several students created bracelets, crowns and necklaces to take home. We ended the week with a puppet show of our story.  Again, thank you for sharing your children with us; they are so kind and helpful and it's a pleasure to spend each day with them.

Important Reminders:

  • Tuesday – Please bring a vegetable for chopping

  • Creekcess will be on Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting.
