Fifth Grade: September 6 - 9

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

Thank you for joining in for our Parent night this past Wednesday.  It was lovely to be together in person and discuss the curriculum and schedule for the coming school year.  Please remember to hold the date for April 25-27th for the Pentathlon!  Our next class event is Saturday, September 17th Community Workday from 9:00-12:00.  Please join us to help care for work projects around campus, students and other family members are welcome to attend.

This past week we began our first Ancient Civilization block!  We are first experiencing Ancient India.  Together, we both drew and painted Brahman, the Highest God of Hinduism, the Supreme Self.  Through stories such as the Beggar King, we are given a glimpse at the idea that, at this time, life was thought to be like a dream, a transitory time in our existence.  We also heard a creation story about Manu and the great fish that pulled the ark Manu built from the mythical land of Atlantis to safety in India during the great flood. We are also taking a cursory look at the geography and climates of India, again through stories. Through our summaries, we reviewed parts of a paragraph and parts of a sentence, such as the subject and predicate.  We will continue learning more about the Gods of Ancient India this week.
