Dear Third and Fourth-Grade Families,
After the long and restful Labor Day weekend, last week seemed to go by quickly. We have ended our first Math block and are entering our Farming Block. Since the third grade will be working on the farm this school year, the class will learn about life and work on the farm throughout the seasons. They will also explore the grains that have been traditionally grown all over the world. As the students learn about the different types of grains, they will hear stories that go along with them. The students will also cook, taste the grains, and record the recipes in their main lesson books.
We are gradually moving into fall. The students are excited about our upcoming Day of Courage celebration for our second-grade students, which marks the beginning of fall. Everybody is excited in anticipation of this event, and the class is singing songs and practicing verses that accompany the festival.
On Friday, the students got to take their pennywhistles home. They will practice with Maestro Ben during music lessons. In addition, we will practice playing the whistles during our main-lesson time daily. Their first homework assignment is to take the whistles home daily and practice at home. The homework assignment includes returning the whistle to school the next day. This new responsibility will prepare the students to take home more homework assignments soon.
The students will also be learning to play the Ukulele. Please refer to my email, which I sent last weekend, about which type of Ukulele to buy for the students and send it to school with your child’s name on it as soon as you have it. Please be sure it has a case as well.
It was wonderful to see each other at the Curriculum night, to meet with parents and talk about the school year. Thank you to all who were able to attend.
