Kindergarten Turtles: January 5-6, 2023

Dear Turtle Families,

Welcome back to school!  We hope you and your families had a restful break.  It was so good to see the children and hear about what they did over the break.

Our classroom was very wet this week and will probably continue to have large puddles.  Please pack rain pants and jacket/rainsuit every day.

Each spring semester, we are excited for our older students, who may rise to 1st grade next year, to begin our Golden Knights program on January 12th. All Golden Knight’s parents received an email explaining the program.  Please reach out to me via email if you have additional questions.

Our shared snack schedule has changed for the second semester. The children have been enjoying the shared snacks this school year. So that the T/TH and M/W/F students experience both the soup and oatmeal we are switching the oatmeal and soup days for the Spring semester.  We will share soup (vegetables and vegetable broth) on Mondays and oatmeal (oats, water, and optional cinnamon and maple or agave syrup) on Thursdays. Your child will not need to bring a snack from home these days, but they are welcome to, if you prefer. If your child attends school on Mondays and Fridays, please send them with a vegetable (any vegetable you choose) on Fridays (beginning Friday, 1/13).  Our practical work activity on Fridays will be chopping vegetables in preparation for soup on Monday.

Spring Semester Shared Snack Schedule:
Monday - Soup

Tuesday - Hot Tea

Wednesday - Hot Tea

Thursday - Oatmeal

Friday - Hot Tea and Bring a Vegetable to Chop

As we enter fully into the winter season, we have a new winter circle!  One of our new songs is “The North Wind Doth Blow”.  Please enjoy the lyrics below:

The north wind doth blow and we shall have snow,

and what will the robin do then, (wings)

poor thing?

Shel’l sit in the barn to keep herself warm and hide her head under her wing,

AAHHHHHHH!

The north wind doth blow and we shall have snow and what will the dormouse do then (paws),

poor thing?

He’s curled up in a ball in his nest so small and that’s where he’ll sleep until spring,

AAHHHHHH!

The north wind doth blow, and we shall have snow, and what will the rabbit do then ,(ears)

poor thing?
She’ll jump and she’ll hop, she won’t want to stop, ‘Cause that’s how she’ll keep herself warm,

AAHHHHHH!

The north wind doth blow, and we shall have snow, and what will the raccoon do then (mask),

poor thing?
He’ll waddle around, leaving prints on the ground, and find a warm burrow to sleep,

AAHHHHHH !

Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being part of our community!

Grace and Peace,

Ki Kim
