Dear First Grade Families,
Last week we began the first week of our language block. The students learned new phonics rules. For example, we focused on vowels and identified their long and short sounds and ways to spot which sound they will make in words.
Next week we will continue going over long and short vowel sounds along with some new sounds. We will be learning about diagraphs, two letters that make one sound, like “sh” or “th”. We will also weave in lessons about the many sounds that the letter “Y” makes.
We had a good week, and the class continues to work together nicely as we navigate new material. The Southern Museum came to our school with various sets of model trains last week which was a special treat. Each student seemed to be interested and captivated by the model trains moving over the tracks. They learned various train signals, watched a larger model train collect cars, and enjoyed all the different sounds and scenes. It was a lot of fun!
Parent Conferences are right around the corner! February 15th, 16th, and 17th will be half-days for all classes as we take an opportunity to meet with the parents of our students. Please sign up for your slot here.
