Hello Second Grade Families:
Last we continued our language arts block by hearing two new fables, The Three Fish and The Ants and the Grasshopper. These stories had important lessons and after taking time to let the story rest within them for the night, the students are able to demonstrate these valuable moral lessons within class discussion. These stories also gave us various new vocabulary words to work with during the week. We were able to add many words to our word bank and then use the words to create new sentences for our workbooks.
This week, we are hearing the stories of The Crow and the Pitcher and The Brahmin and His Ox. We will continue growing our word bank and creating sentences for our workbooks. Additionally, we will use some fun activities to reinforce what we are learning. We have been using a life-size board game created for this purpose. The students are the game pieces, and after determining how many spaces they can move, as each student moves around the board, they spell and read words.
It is impressive to see how quickly the students have been adding words to their word banks. Everyone is eager to learn and they are working together so nicely. We look forward to seeing you all at our Kingdom of Halloween festival THIS Saturday. If you have not signed up to volunteer yet, we do need more help at the jump rope booth. Please sign up here. Thank you!
