Dear Second Grade Families,
Happy Tuesday! Last week, we continued with our current English Language Arts block. The class enjoyed hearing more fables, such as The Grasshopper and the Ants and the Tortoise and the Hare. Students practiced summarizing the stories with self-generated sentences. After editing their sentences, they completed their summaries in their main lesson books. Lessons regarding spelling patterns and sight words are woven into our summaries as well.
When we return from break, we will begin our next math block. This block will continue our work with place value, times table patterns, and the four operations. While the main lessons will focus on math, the students will delight in hearing fables and stories from the Jataka Tales as well.
Last week, we enjoyed a special puppet show put on by the fifth grade class in Mandarin! The show celebrated the Chinese New Year. Students enjoyed singing songs they have learned in Mandarin together, and watching the fifth graders’ puppets come to life, which fifth grade made by hand in Handwork. Great work fifth grade!
I look forward to seeing all of you at conferences this week!
