Kindergarten Turtles: January 30- February3, 2023

Greetings Turtle Families,

It was a MUDDY week in the forest!  You probably already knew that, as your children came home with mud-caked boots and well-used rain gear.  They love digging and making creations with all of this mud. The shovels, wheelbarrows, pots, pans, and wood mallets were well-used.  On the platform, students were busy using needles and thread to string felt shapes and beads into beautiful necklaces and also made other creations with fabric.  We love to see the students move back and forth, throughout the day, from heavy, gross motor play/work in the forest to the quiet, calming fine motor play/work on the platform.  The children are all growing, learning, and developing new abilities and skills; it is a joy to watch.

We enjoyed a rhyme and puppet play about Groundhog Day.

Little Groundhog in the ground,
He peeks out and looks around,
He looks here, he looks there,
Sun is shining everywhere!
Winter’s cold is here to stay
Quickly, Groundhog hide away!

Little Groundhog in the ground,
He peeks out and looks around.
He looks here and he looks there,
Oh how gray the skies today!
Spring is on its way, hurray!
Out he comes, he’s here to stay!
Now he’ll play and play all day.

Our story was about a Gnome walking with his candlestick in the forest when the sun began to rise.  He was so enamored with the colors in the sky that he stopped to watch and, putting his candlestick down, he danced a jig.  Then he thought that his wife would love to see the lovely sunrise sky and rushed home to get her.  While he was away, a boy, named Jack, and his friend, Frog, came along. Finding the candlestick they began a game – “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick.” As Jack and Frog leave, they blow out the candle and make a wish.  Gnome returns with his wife to watch the end of the sunrise and finds the candlestick he left behind.  Many of the children had never heard this rhyme.  We took turns jumping over some candlesticks in the forest.  We also used the rhyme in a bean bag game.

Thank you to all of our families who joined us this past Saturday for our All School meeting.  Coming together as a community to support our lovely school is what keeps us strong and helps us grow.
