Hello First Grade Families,
This week we started working on division. We learned that put in simple terms, division is sharing equally. We used our gems and shared them with a partner to demonstrate the concept with a variety of real-life experiences. For example, if partners have a total of 6 gems and they share the gems equally (6÷2), then each partner receives half of the gems (6÷2=3). The story we used to help with our new division problems was about The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Please ask your student to share some of the math problems from our story. Everyone has been learning so much this year and it will be very beneficial to practice lines for the play, math, reading and spelling at home. Anything you can do to reinforce what has been learned at school will benefit your student and help them move forward in their academic success more readily.
Next week, when we return from spring break, we will continue working on division. We will use different manipulatives and share ideas to enforce the math facts being learned. We will also use some card games that will help us practice a variety of math facts.
The week ended with our Grandfriends Tea. It was fun meeting all the Grandfriends and the students really seemed to enjoy the event. Thank you all for supporting our school.
