Hello Second Grade Families,
Last week, the students enjoyed hearing the story of St. George and the Dragon. This story introduced us to new words to expand our reading skills. St. George and the Dragon gave us inspiration for a project that involved creating fire-breathing dragons with toilet paper rolls and painted paper that resembled the fire. The students also enjoyed their free time, and it was fun to see them use their imagination to find "rare gems". Around these activities, we practiced reading using many of our second-grade room's early reader books.
This week, we will hear the story of The Tortoise and the Hare. We will use the new words from this story to expand on word bingo and increase our sight word knowledge. We will also continue reading early readers.
The students are getting a lot of reading practice in class, which is encouraged to be reinforced at home. Although we are not working directly on math right now, practicing basic math facts at home is also very beneficial. Additionally, the second graders are growing! Please support their growth with a hearty breakfast that included protien to help them continue to grow and to keep their minds sharp and ready for the Main Lesson. Another way to help keep their minds sharp and bodies healthy is to ensure a good night's sleep. Everyone is working to learn all the new material being introduced and are having fun each day, too.
Next Wednesday, September 6th, is Curriculum Night! We will enjoy a circle activity, review our weekly schedule, and hear an overview of the Second Grade curriculum. We look forward to seeing you on campus for this adults-only event.

Bring rain gear, including boots, daily! It can be left at school and stored in the shed.
Hard-soled, closed-toe water shoes or old sneakers are required at Creekcess.
