Kindergarten Honeybees: January 15 - 19, 2024

Greetings, Honeybee Families,

King Frost visited last week and blew his icy breath all across our forest space. The children were delighted to find large pockets of ice in our classroom like never before. A huge ditch they had dug previously filled with water that froze over. We also found ice in our pots, pans, and even inside our play tires. The children worked together to break the ice into ice crystals, collect it in pans, and wheel it around in the wheelbarrow. On Wednesday, we took a nature walk to visit the animals. On our walk, the students were amazed to find the ponds on both sides frozen. Students were also busy building forest fairy houses as they discovered flowers scattered across our forest floor left by our flower fairy. They gathered the flowers and designed intricate homes with sticks, stones, and flowers. Some students even made tiny firepits!

As we had some very cold mornings, we spent most of our mornings in our indoor classroom. Students worked on handwork projects, built forts, and put together puzzles. On Thursday, the children put on a play based on the story we shared about the bird with the broken wing who searched from tree to tree to find shelter. We had many who volunteered themselves to be the kind and valiant trees. On Friday, the students enjoyed a puppet show of our story and watched the story come alive before their eyes.

Each spring semester, we are excited for our older students, who may rise to 1st grade next year, to begin our Golden Knights program on Monday, January 22nd. All Golden Knight’s parents received an email explaining the program.  Please reach out to me via email if you have additional questions.
