Kindergarten Chickadees: January 22 - 26, 2024

Osiyo, Chickadee families.

Last week was filled with practical work and trains! Students engaged in many practical work activities such as folding towels, peeling and chopping apples, sweeping, and sawing branches for fort building and kindling. It is a delight to see the students happily engaged in their chosen jobs, working together as a community and showing pride in their accomplishments. On Tuesday, The Garden School had a special visit from the Southern Museum. The children learned about different types of trains, hand signals conductors use, what trains do, and how they work. They watched some model trains move on their tracks and had the opportunity to ask questions. It was an exciting morning!

During the first half of the school year, the students showed considerable growth in their fine motor skills, ability to follow verbal directions, and attention spans. They now have the opportunity to use and continue to develop these skills as they begin working on handwork projects. The Chickadees are starting their handwork journey, making pom poms and learning to finger knit. The children will also begin sewing pieces of knit wool to make wrist warmers. This project uses larger, duller tapestry needles and yarn, making it a great beginning sewing project.
