Second Grade: January 29 - February 2, 2024

Hello, Second Grade Families,

Thank you for attending the All School Meeting on Saturday.  We are grateful for your support of our school and community.

Last week we continued our Language Block and enjoyed hearing two different stories.  We heard The Fisherman & the Little Fish along with The Wolf and the Kid.  These stories opened up some interesting conversations and also provided us with material for our composition sentences.  The students have been successful when forming printed letters and are excited to begin to learn the cursive alphabet.  They willingly rose to the challenge of the new skill of learning their cursive letters.

This week our story is called Brother Francis.  We will continue reading, writing, and spelling.  The cursive letters we learned last week were A through G and this week we are adding H through K.  The class is learning how to form the upper and lower case of each letter and in the Third Grade, they will begin using this knowledge to write sentences in cursive.

Each week, we have wet-on wet painting, and the students have really created some beautiful and impressive paintings recently.  They have also had creative experiences during outdoor explorations.  They have found interesting and unique bits of nature under rocks, near mud, and even recently discovered a salamander. The class loves to explore new things and discover what lies beneath the forest leaf litter, stumps, and rocks.
