Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
Thank you for all the love at the end of the year and for your support throughout the school year. It has been such a magical journey partnering with each family to guide your amazing children through this phase of their lives. We certainly learned as much from them as they did from us. Some friends are returning next school year, and some are moving on along different paths. We will always remember the lessons and friendships we shared during this first year of kindergarten.
The last week of the school year was filled with fun and excitement for the Chickadees. The students loved the parachute, which they played with several times. Along with fun, they developed motor and sequencing skills. Everyone agreed that the best part was lifting the parachute high together, then stepping inside and quickly bringing it down behind us to create a cozy tent. Wednesday was Field Day, which included parachute fun, a hula-hoop ring toss game, a beanbag toss, and carrying wooden eggs on large spoons. The students visited the farm several times and had the opportunity to take the rinds from our Thursday watermelon snack as a special treat for the goats, donkeys, and chickens. The children squeezed lemons to make lemonade, and they also made warm tea from fresh lemon balm grown in the class herb garden. Students enjoyed watermelon, Outshine popsicles, Lesser Evil popcorn, and homemade vegan French bread for snacks this week.
If you have not already read Kim John Payne's Simplicity Parenting, we highly recommend it for summer reading. It is a wonderful guide that is used and recommended by many Waldorf schools. Although the end of the school year is bittersweet, the children will enjoy their relaxed summer time with family, playdates with friends, and many types of adventures. They will certainly be ready to share about their summer fun when we return to school in August. In the meantime, they may find a surprise in their mailboxes sometime this summer.
