Kindergarten Turtles: August 12 - 16, 2024

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Our first full week of school was very busy and so much fun! On Monday, we chopped vegetables and had a variety of carrots, broccoli, sweet potatoes, and zucchini. Thank you for remembering to send in vegetables and fruits! On Tuesday, we had our first weekly painting class. In Kindergarten, the students begin by experiencing one color at a time; this week, we painted with the color yellow. On Wednesday, we visited the creek, the students played in the water and on the beach. They enjoyed experimenting with the water and the sand and even found some clay on the banks.  On Thursday, we started work on our drawing journals, creating the front and back covers.  We will draw each Thursday, and the children will bring their work home at the end of the semester.  On Friday, we had our second creek visit.  As the weather permits, this is the weekly schedule we will follow for activities throughout the year.

The Turtles are a sweet, kind, and helpful class! The children are developing friendships, and seeing how they play together is beautiful. They are becoming great climbers on the climbing dome and have begun working together, using boards and wood pieces, to build stores, homes, and forts. We are slowly introducing loose parts and free play activities into the class.  During the week, we added chalk and trucks to our forest classroom. The chalk was helpful in decorating their buildings, and the trucks are well loved. This week we will introduce the slack line.  Again, thank you for sharing your children with us;  spending each day with them is a pleasure.

On Wednesday, we celebrated Niam’s 5th birthday.  Niam’s parents visited our class and shared fun memories from each year of his life.  Classmates, teachers, and his parents shared a wish for the coming year.  Happy Birthday, Niam!

Announcements and Reminders:

  • Please continue to send your child in with bug spray; the mosquitos are active!

  • Please remember to check your child’s backpack each night for wet/dirty clothes and replace any you find with a new change of clothes.

Grace and Peace,

Ki Kim
