Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
The Chickadees enjoyed a splendid summer week at The Garden School. The students are settling nicely into the rhythm of the week, enjoying watercolor painting on Monday, vegetable chopping on Tuesday, creek play on Wednesday, drawing on Thursday, and more creek time on Friday. They are also enjoying our new snack routine, eating popcorn on Monday, rice on Tuesday, soup on Wednesday, fruit on Thursday, and rice cakes with fruit spread on Friday. The children have enjoyed playing in their new outdoor space and resting and engaging in fine motor skills in their new indoor classroom and are already a comfortable group of joyful, inclusive classmates.
During the first week and a half of school, the students heard the story Where The Wild Things Are. This week, they will hear the story Stone Soup, a beautiful tale about community and working together. Beginning this Wednesday, the children will find that one student has a “wishing stone” in their soup. Whoever the wishing stone finds, holds the stone and makes the first wish; the stone is then passed around the snack circle for each student to make a silent wish upon. Finally, the teacher adds love to the stone to help the wishes come true. The stone will visit a different child’s soup bowl each week. Next week, the students will experience Stone Soup as a puppet show.
Announcements and Reminders for Chickadee Kindergarten:
Please send a vegetable to chop for soup each Monday. If your child attends school on Thursdays, please also send a fruit to chop for fruit kabobs.
If you have not sent in one to two photos of your child’s family, pets, or friends to hang in the indoor classroom, please do so.
Rain gear must come to school each day.
Remember to check backpacks daily for clothing that needs to be washed. If there is clothing to wash, please send a new set of extra clothes to school the following day. We are spending time wading in the creek, so clothing will need to be swapped out more often than usual.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being part of our community.
Gvyalieliga,
Ki Holly
