Osiyo, Chickadee Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful, restful break. It was wonderful to see the children on campus today.
Before fall break, the Chickadees had a busy week filled with special activities. On Monday, students worked diligently, picking flowers off goldenrod plants to be turned into a lovely golden dye. On Tuesday, the children added floursack capes, wool felt stars, and wool yarn to the dye, and on Wednesday, they rinsed these items and hung them up to dry. Students wore their capes in the forest on Friday before taking them home for the break. The stars and yarn will be used for future projects. The children also made cards for veterans on Wednesday and Thursday and made a goldenrod broom to hang in the forest classroom on Friday.
The return from the break marks a new season, which brings a new morning circle! The words, tunes, and movements will progress throughout the year to keep the students engaged and continue to build cross-brain connections and motor skills. Languages spoken in the children’s homes are intentionally woven into the morning circle throughout the year; the last circle included a song in Russian, and the current circle includes a song in Spanish. The students will sing and move to songs in German and Japanese later in the school year. If you have a song in a language your family speaks at home that might be good for the Chickadees’ morning circle, please e-mail it to us!
Announcements and Reminders for Chickadee Kindergarten:
Conferences are next Thursday and Friday, October 10th and 11th. If you have not signed up, please do so now here. Please contact me if you have questions or do not see a time that works for you.
If you did not do so today, please return your child’s rest mat to school. They will be sent home again to be washed during November break.
Please ensure your child has a sweater or light jacket, long pants, and rain gear daily. The weather is unpredictable, and we want the students to be comfortable. Students who do not have rain gear on rainy or muddy days may need to play on the platform to stay dry and warm.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being part of our community.
Gvyalieliga,
Ki Holly
