Dear Honeybee Families,
We had a short but enjoyable week in the Honeybees. I sincerely enjoyed our Curriculum Night and appreciate those who were able to make it on Tuesday evening. We talked about loving boundaries and the rhythms of our school day. During the day on Tuesday, the class enjoyed the extra mud in our mud kitchen made by the weekend rain. On Wednesday, the students made necklaces for each other with beads and embroidery thread. On Thursday, we shared a colorful fruit salad. On Friday, we joined the Turtles class during their creek time. Our story for the week was about a grandmother who lost her hat while gardening. The hat later becomes a cozy home for a field mouse.
This week, we will introduce puppets during our retelling of the story about the grandmother who loses her hat. We will be returning to the creek as per our usual rhythm, and we will visit it at a new spot that is more shallow and wider than our regular location. As the children enjoyed making fairy wands from yarn, we plan to introduce them to finger knitting. As with many activities, the students will be given the option to learn this new skill. While some students wish to learn right away, others choose to continue to play in the forest. In time, all students typically come to enjoy this activity when they are ready for it. We will be wet-on-wet painting on Wednesday. The students have used blue and red paint, and we are looking forward to introducing them to yellow. At the end of the semester, each student will bring home a book of their lovely paintings. It will be fun to look through it and see how their work progressed as the weeks passed.
Announcements and Reminders for Honeybee Kindergarten:
Please send your child with a long-sleeve shirt; the mornings are starting to have a much welcomed chill in the air.
Our class’ Community Workday will be October 12th from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Together, we will be working towards the beautification of our school and to ready campus for our amazing Kingdom of Halloween festival!
Please remember that our dress code at The Garden School asks that the children not wear clothing with characters on it. Please be mindful of this when your child is getting ready in the morning.
Feel free to send a supplemental, nutritious snack for your child to enjoy with our shared snack.
We will be using natural dyes to color cloth later in September. To do this, we need specific flowers that make a beautiful golden color when boiled. If you have marigold flowers you could share with us, we would be grateful to have them (just the flower head, please). Also, if you can harvest any goldenrod, a yellow wildflower often found growing freely along the road or trails, we would appreciate that, too. Please send any marigolds or goldenrods in by September 16th.
Warmly,
Ki Peden
