Greetings, Turtle Families,
Thank you, Turtle Families, for attending Curriculum Night. The Turtles had a short, though busy week. Rainbow yarn, to complement our rainbow story, was available for finger chaining, and many students made bracelets and necklaces. We spent the morning at the creek on Wednesday and Friday. It was a little too chilly to get in the creek, so the children played on the beach and used water in pots and pans to add to their play. On Thursday, we colored in our drawing journals; the students enjoyed sharing their work with the class at the end of our drawing time. Our handwork bags have been useful, and many projects that are in progress are stored there. The students can pick them up and work on them as they choose throughout the week. In the forest, we continue to monitor the spiders, spiky caterpillars, and other insects that call our classroom home. It is sweet to see the children excitedly point out new and unusual critters throughout the day. Building with our large, loose wood parts is also a favorite activity in the forest, and the structures they build are impressive! It is lovely to observe the children get involved in so many creative and imaginative activities and gain confidence and trust in each other as they play.
We will be using natural dyes to color cloth later in September. To do this, we need specific flowers that make a beautiful golden color when boiled. If you have marigold flowers you could share with us, we would be grateful to have them (just the flower head, please). Also, if you can harvest any goldenrod, a yellow wildflower often found growing freely along the road or trails, we would appreciate that, too. Please send any marigolds or goldenrods in by September 16th.
We end our circle, throughout the year, with our school song, Inch by Inch:
Inch by inch,
Row by row,
We’re going to make this garden grow.
All it takes is a rake and a hoe,
And a piece of fertile ground.
Inch by inch,
Row by row,
Sun, bless these seeds we sow.
Earth, warm them from below
Until the rain comes tumbling down.
Announcements and Reminders:
As the Fall mornings can be chilly, please include a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket in your child’s backpack.
Please remember to check your child’s backpack for wet clothes each day and to pack a new change of clothes when they bring wet clothes home, so they are prepared for all our activities.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and being part of our community.
Grace and Peace,
Ki Kim
