First Grade: October 30 - November 4

Hello First Grade Families!

I lift my arms to the clear blue sky,

I stretch them wide and I stretch them high.

Firmly on the earth I stand,

To my neighbor I give my hand.

“What’s New in First Grade”

  • Current Block: We are currently in our language arts block. The children really enjoy the activities that are taking place during this block.

  • Letters: This week we will finish up our letter h and then we will start with our letter i. We will make pictures for each story that is told for these letters and then on the back of their main lesson pages they will write the letters out.

  • Math: Even though we are no longer in our math block we continue to do math activities during our extra main lessons. They really enjoy math Bingo, and would like to make it more challenging by adding the numbers together to get a number on their board.

  • Story: This week we will be finishing up our African fairy tail which is called The One-Handed Girl. I will then be telling the children and the story of Iya the Camp- Eater which is a Native American tale.

  • More: The children are getting very excited about our thumbprint tree, as it is gaining more and more thumbprints. We currently have 93 thumbprints on our tree. The children are hoping to get to 100 by next week!

Dates to remember:
