Second Grade: January 21 - 24

The second grade class kept busy and warm this week!  We worked on building numbers on our place value charts as well as practicing regrouping (a.k.a."carrying") while doing addition.  We also looked more closely at the relationship between addition and subtraction.  Students are working on basic fact skills via worksheets so they can focus on building their fact memorization.  This allows them to each work on the fact families they need individually.  We also are continuing to play many math games in which they use the facts first hand.  We continued reading "Just So..." stories, learning more about each animal and modeling them using clay.  We also had a special treat of feeding the farm animals this week!  We practice A, D and O in cursive as well!

This week we will continue working using our place value charts to create both addition and subtraction equations, practicing math facts and playing more fun math games!

For Valentine's Day, we are asking students not to bring cards to distribute this year.  Each class will be planning on a special way to celebrate Valentine's day in school.

With gratitude,

Melissa
