Forestgarten Families!

Many friends were out sick this past week but by Friday we had almost our full class, back and
healthy. The heavy rains have left the forest fairly flooded so we spend a lot of time in the
garden. There is a huge shallow hole in the back of the garden and many adventures were had
there this past week. We saw an environmentalist spirit emerge from a group of students as
they helped collect bits of trash that the rain washed into the garden. Our animals friends
enjoyed our frequent visits and graciously accepted many pats on their heads. The donkeys
even called out to us during our Spanish lesson as we sang about animals. We all shared some
belly laughs at that!

We celebrated Clark’s fifth birthday on Wednesday and Gemma’s half birthday on Friday, as she
turned five this past summer. Both families shared fun memories and sweet treats! Happy
Birthday, Clark and Gemma!

On Thursday, we watched the Upper Grades in their performance of “Robin Hood.” The
performance lasted an hour and the kindergarteners loved it! The Upper Grades did an
absolutely amazing job and we were so thankful to see the results of their hard work. It was
funny and entertaining and certainly very impressive!

We did some cooking this week as well. Ki Holly made homemade corn cakes with the
students. They were able to pat their own cakes and ate them fresh and hot off the griddle.
We also shared a special Valentine’s treat of vegan hot cocoa and fresh popcorn. See recipe for
corn cakes below:

2 cups masa harina
1 1/2 cups water
Pinch of sea salt
Mix until dough is moist and can be rolled into small balls. Pat flat with hands. Cook on pan on
stove or electric griddle, flipping over about every 30 seconds, until golden color and cooked
through, 1-3 minutes or so depending on thickness.

We are so thankful for the time we had with each family during conferences this week.
Celebrating each student’s progress with their families is such a fulfilling and special time.
Please remember that we are always available with any questions, concerns, or just for a chat.

Have a wonderful break!
