Kindergarten: January 27-31

Greetings Forestgarten Families!

We made fires this week in the forest to stay warm and dry in the chilly mornings.  We enjoyed warm afternoon sun most days, so we hurried outside right after our rest hour.

The children are building some wonderful structures in the forest.  They used blocks of wood to create a border, which they filled with pine straw and other forest treasures.  Much imaginative play took place inside their “little house.” Other creations included a bakery and a mini river that many little hands dug out and filled with water from large puddles.

Our story this week was about Mother Earth protecting her seedlings and bulbs through the winter.  Try as she might, she was having much difficulty keeping them warm as they kept trying to get up and play with Jack Frost. To complicate matters, Jack Frost was being naughty, playing tricks on the seedlings.  Mother Earth wrote to her dear friend Father Winter, asking for some help. He was much obliged and sent a warm blanket of snowflakes to protect the earth and keep the bulb and seedling babies dry and warm through the winter.  Mother Earth felt happy and thanked Father Winter.

We celebrated Nolan’s half birthday on Friday, as he took his fifth trip around the sun over the summer time and now he is 5 and a half.  We enjoyed hearing heartfelt memories about Nolan’s first 4 years and wishes for his year ahead. The gluten free cupcakes with chocolate icing were very yummy! Happy Birthday, Nolan!

Reminders:

Please ensure that your child comes to school with a full water bottle every day.  It is very difficult for us to ensure they are properly hydrated if they are not prepared with their own water.

Every child should have the following items:

  • Winter jacket

  • Gloves

  • Hat

  • Bottom layers (i.e. sweatpants over leggings, rain pants, or snow pants)

  • Warm boots

Hand Warmers and Toe Warmers are helpful if your child is particularly sensitive to the cold.

Please send just ONE “lovey” for rest time and please ensure that it is reasonably sized.  It becomes a distraction when students have several items or a very large item at rest time.

With gratitude and appreciation,
