Joyful Beginnings: February 24 - 28

After the sunny weekend, Monday surprised us with cold and rainy weather. This didn’t stop us from going outside to visit our farm animals. The farm was very wet and muddy, though we didn’t play there that day.

We were happy to be back from vacation. Our theme this week was pussy willows. We learned a poem and read a story about “Pussy Willow Spring”. The students really loved the ending of the poem where we say “Scat cat!”:

I know a little pussy

Her coat is silver gray.

She lives down in the meadow,

Not very far away.

She’ll always be a pussy,

She’ll never be a cat.

For she’s a pussy willow,

Now what do you think of that!

Meow, meow, meow,

meow, meow, meow,

Scat cat!!

Wednesday we had our regular soup day. Our apologies for not reminding you to take a vegetable to the school for our soup. We had extra veggies that we used for the soup so all the kids had their share of our warm and hearty soup.

We went back to play on the farm since the weather was friendlier than on Monday. Students noticed the changes we had made to the play area. We had moved the climbing gym to the other side of the farm.

Friday we were visited by a new student on observation day. In general, throughout March we will have new students visiting us. We are starting to get ready for the next school year!

On days when there were a few students in our class, we spent a lot of time outside playing in the forest with kindergarten students. Later we moved to the little playground for additional playtime.

We finished our theme of pussy willow by giving students one branch to take home.
