Kindergarten River Otters: October 4 - 8

Osiyo, River Otter families.

The River Otters had so much fun playing and learning in the puddles this week! Tuesday’s rain provided us with a large, expanding puddle on the path next to our platform. All of the students pitched in scooping water into larger containers and dumping them elsewhere to empty the puddle and “save the town from a flood”. The combination of imagination, teamwork, physical/practical work, and learning was beautiful to observe, especially as the activity was completely student created and led. Many of the students fell asleep at rest time after all of their hard work.

Conference week is coming soon!  Next week we will have conferences on Wednesday through Friday. Conferences are a wonderful way for parents and teachers to discuss a child’s experience at school and connect to become the strongest team for the child’s benefit. Conferences will be via Zoom, however if you would prefer to meet in person or do not see a time that works for you, please contact me and I will be happy to make other arrangements. You can sign up for a time using the link in the main Monday Messanger.

Announcements and Reminders:

  • The weather is changing and unpredictable this time of year. Please have a sweatshirt or light jacket in your child’s backpack, as it can get surprisingly chilly in the forest. Please also send their rain gear daily, as it is likely wet and muddy even if not raining. Rain boots and either a one piece rain suit or rain jacket and rain pants are needed.

  • Please check your child’s backpack daily for wet/soiled clothing and add new changes of clothes as needed. This is also a good time to add or change to fall weather clothing for their changes of clothes. Some students have been asking for pants and long sleeved shirts to put on.

  • With the cooling weather, you may pack a small, light blanket for your child to cover up with at rest time.

  • October 20-22 are conferences, and all three days are half days. All students will be dismissed at 12:30 on these days next week.

  • Please be on the lookout for an email coming soon about an exciting and fun class/community project: Scarecrows!

Thank you so much for sharing your children with us, and for being part of our community.
