Greetings Dear Beaver Families,
Last week the children enjoyed another beautiful, sunshine filled week. Ki Kim brought cranberries for the children to string together and use to decorate the forest. Some children enjoyed this craft, while others chose to use the string to create bows to use within their forest play. On Thursday, the Beavers found a huge tree limb and worked together to move it and discuss how it could be used for a building structure. They decided to wedge it on a diagonal between the ground and another tree. Then, they collected sticks of different sizes to further support the limb. It became a fun part of their play, as the students ducked underneath and in between the various sticks. It is amazing to observe the children working together toward a common goal that they feel so proud to accomplish together! Along with this, Pumpkins were carved, mounds were excavated, and much fun was had.
On Friday, the children watched a puppet play about a story they heard over the course of the week called, “Squirrel Nutkins Thanksgiving''. It’s about a little porcupine who was upset about his friends not wanting to be near him, fearing that he may prickle them. He worried that he would also not be invited to Squirrel Nutkins’ Thanksgiving dinner and rejoiced when he received an invitation. Meanwhile, the mischievous coyote was making his own plans to come and wreak havoc. As the coyote prepared to clamp his teeth on Squirrel Nutkin at the dinner, Porcupine hurried over to protect his friend. Everyone thanked Porcupine and realized that as long as they didn’t rub him the wrong way his shiny quills did not bother them at all, and looked very pretty in the sunlight!
Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday everyone! As always, thank you for sharing your precious children with us. Stay warm!
Reminders:
Please join us at 9:15 on Friday, 12/3 as our class walks the Winter Spiral in the pine forest below the dome. The children will walk into the spiral with a candle which will be lit in the center of the spiral. As they walk out, they will place their candles onto the spiral to lighten the path and share their light with others.
With gratitude,
Ki Fatima and all our kindergarten teachers
