Greetings Turtle Families!
We had a delightful and chilly week in the forest - it certainly feels like autumn! The students are building a “clubhouse” in the forest and spent much time working on it. They searched the wooded area for sticks, hauled the larger ones in small groups, and one student even designed an “air vent” for the house. On Friday, they worked together loading the wheelbarrow with sticks and items from the mud kitchen to stock their house. On our way to the farm on Wednesday, we collected some kudzu to feed to the donkeys and goats. The animals were very eager to nibble on the treats! Once there, we continued collecting rocks from the garden and also enjoyed time in the sun building castles and digging holes in the dirt. Next week we will collect fallen leaves to spread in the garden beds as the next step in preparing the soil for planting.
We talked about our upcoming Lantern Walk as we sang the lantern songs and made our little glass lanterns with colorful tissue paper. It will be a beautiful and peaceful experience and I hope that all those who are able to join will be there. :)
Reminders/Announcements:
The Lantern Walk is scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th at 6:15pm. There will be extra lanterns to borrow for parents and siblings. The lanterns that the children made at school will be kept at school until the walk and taken home thereafter. Please arrive on time, as the event is staggered, with each class having its own time slot.
Coats for our annual Coat Drive can be donated all week during carpool as well as brought to the Lantern Walk evening.
Our class is sponsoring the next Work Day on November 13th, from 9:00am-12:00pm. Please sign up via this link if you are able to attend. The sign-up is simply an RSVP so that we know how many volunteers to expect. A few days prior to the work day, specific needs for tools will be posted on the Garden Families Facebook page and communicated to the Turtle families via our class parent, Erica. Children are welcome to attend workdays, keeping in mind that parents are responsible for supervising. There are typically plenty of jobs that the kids can help with or play within eyesight :) And finally, each member of your family who attends the work day counts toward your total work bond hours, so feel free to bring extended family members!
Now that the colder weather has arrived, a helpful item to keep hands and feet warm is disposable hand and toe warmers. We keep a minimal supply at school for emergencies but we encourage families to provide them, especially if your child is particularly sensitive to colder temperatures. A popular brand is Hot Hands and can be purchased on Amazon, at Walmart, and Sam’s Club.
Kindly,
Ki Amy
