Greetings Dear Beaver Families,
It was wonderful to be together again after our Thanksgiving break. It’s hard to believe we are already in December, the weather has been beyond beautiful in the forest. We are cherishing these warm, sun filled days while they last! We welcomed the week with a couple new circle songs to go with the season. The children really enjoyed these new songs and accompanying movements, especially the part where we pretend to saw and chop wood. The children heard a story this week that followed the theme of letting our inner light shine. The story was about a beautiful blade of grass who was warmed and made joyous in the sunlight. Meanwhile, a raven would come by and tell the blade of grass that she was of no use to anyone, for beyond the fence the grass in the meadow would feed the cows. The blade of grass saw that what the raven said was true and would lament that she could not be useful. Not long after, she would be warmed by the sun rays again and rejoice at her being. Each time, the raven would come and tell her how she was of no use. Finally, the season turned her beautiful green to a sun crisped gold, and she was cut and stored away where no sun shines. Ultimately, the little blade of grass discovered her light and warmth from within, even being a hollow straw with seemingly nothing left.
Thank you for contributing to the winter spiral and sharing in that beautiful presence. The reverence was palpable and it was wonderful to see the children bring themselves to the center of the spiral where Ki Kim lit their candle. It’s always a joy to see each child and how they carry themselves so uniquely in the world and to bring acknowledgment and honor to that shining light within each one of them.
Warmly,
Ki Fatima
