Kindergarten Turtles: November 29 - December 3

Greetings Turtle Families!

It is quite hard to believe that Winter Break is fast approaching, especially with the balmy temperatures we had this past week! The students started the week by making some snowflakes with Ki Kim.  We hope that these simple, snowflakes made with natural wooden beads will grace your home throughout the winter season.

Our story this week was a German tale about an evergreen tree who was not happy with his long green needles.  He made many wishes, all of which were granted by the Tree Guardian.  He first wished for beautiful golden leaves, which were plucked and placed into a bag and taken away.  The tree then wished to have glass leaves that would shimmer in the sun but was quick to discover that glass leaves break from gusts of wind. Beautiful green leaves were his next wish; however, they were quickly gobbled up by goats.  Finally, the little tree was able to observe the beauty of his true self.  He wished for his pine needles back and as soon as he had them, birds flew to his branches and he was happy to see them and protect them through the winter.

Thank you all for attending our precious Winter Spiral, contributing greens, and helping to set up and clean up.  Watching each student navigate the greenery and cradle their candle is always a wonder to behold.  We never instruct the students to remain silent during the spiral; rather, it is something that they conclude on their own, realizing the importance and significance of this journey. Some move quickly, others quite slowly, some notice the red berries or wave to family members, and others make their own path.  Even more special is to watch each child progress through the spiral in subsequent years, observing both striking similarities to and differences from their younger selves as each journey is integrated with the one that came before.
