Hello First Grade Families,
Last week we wrapped up our math block with the numbers 10, 11 and 12. It was fun to talk about our ten fingers and ten toes along with twelve eggs and twelve numbers on a clock. The number 11 was a little more challenging, but we visualized this number by cutting our pizza or pie into 11 pieces. This week we also worked with clay. The students all made round balls of all sizes and after counting the balls we tried to figure out who made the most, who made the least, who had an odd number and who had an even number. The clay project was a fun way to work on math concepts. We also had fun as we carved pumpkins and got our hands covered in pumpkin goo while we separated the seeds from the slime.
This week we will taste our pumpkin seeds and enjoy the results of the gooey part of carving. We will also be changing gears from math back to letters as we start our second language arts block about letters. We will pick back up with part two of our Prince’s journey and look forward to being introduced to the new characters he will be meeting on his journey.
The students continue to be creative and did a great job with numbers and math concepts. They also handled our cold snap very well – perhaps better than I did.
