Dear Third-Grade Parents,
The week before our mid-winter break went by very quickly. The students were excited to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day on Monday. They decorated Valentine’s cards and folded them into little envelopes to take home to their families. The Valentine snacks provided by our class parents were well received. At the end of our celebration, Julian handed each student a heart-shaped semi-precious gemstone that he had brought from home.
In math, the students were busy measuring their height using their personal measurements as a reference. They found out that each student was 1 fathom / 2 yards/ 4 cubits tall. Curiously, only the length of the feet in personal inches did not follow bodily proportions as strictly and was different for each student. The class also went outdoors to measure the length and width of Noah's Ark, which was described in the Old Testament as 300 cubits long and 50 cubits wide. The students used a 10-cubit long rope to measure the dimensions of the Arc in the forest. Then they had fun running the total length of the Arc and comparing the Arc to modern ships.
Thank you to all parents for the flowers and other contributions to our Valentine’s celebration on Monday. Thank you also for coming to the parent-teacher conferences. It makes a huge difference!
I wish you a relaxing mid-winter break!
Friday, March 11, is a teacher in-service day; there is no school
