Dear First Grade Families,
Happy Monday! Last week, we began our current math block. We are working with the tens place and the ones place, and noticing patterns that come out of numbers 1 through 100. To bring this learning to life, the children heard a lovely story titled “The Quest for the Star of the Sea.” There was a beautiful tower in our story, and we built towers out of gems that were ten gems tall. Once we got to ten “bricks,” we would start another column. Students noticed connections between groups of tens, groups of ones, and two digit numbers.
During painting with Ki Fatima, students discussed the signs of spring. They then made a beautiful painting with red flowers. Students are currently working through a pond unit with Ki Rachel in environmental education. Last week, they closely observed pond life and went for a pond scavenger hunt!
Reminders:
Saturday, March 19th, is a Community Workday
Friday, April 1, is Grandfriend’s Day.
Warmly,
Ki Hayley
