Second Grade: May 2 - 6

Dear Second-Grade Parents,

This week, the class continued hearing various of Aesop's fables and writing about them in their main lesson books. Throughout the school year, the second-grade students have continuously worked on refining their handwriting skills. In the first semester of the school year, they practiced continuous line drawings with Ki Rachel. They learned to write and connect all alphabet letters in cursive in the second semester. This week, the students focused on using the correct pencil grip to avoid clutching their pencils, leading to an achy hand and reduced fine motor control over the pencil. It is more ergonomic to use the tripod grip, holding the pencil with the thumb and index finger while the pencil rests on the middle finger. To celebrate their accomplishments in cursive handwriting, each student proudly made a little poster with all letters in cursive to take home at the end of the year.

The class also continued to rehearse for the upcoming play on Tuesday night. The students had several opportunities to practice on stage to experience how their voices carry in the sanctuary and how they can better project their voices to be heard by their audience. Ki Kathee was also there to help the students prepare their music performance and give logistical tips for the play.

We also celebrated two birthday parties. Charlotte turned 8, and her brother Max will turn 10 this summer. Happy birthday, Charlotte and Max!

Warm Regards,

Gaby Farrokhi

Reminders:

  • Please join us for the class play on Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30 PM. Students need to be on campus in the Blue Sky room at 5:30 PM.

  • Please check your email to sign up to supply food and drinks for our Cast Party at the picnic tables after the performance. Here is the link.

  • Please send two water bottles every day (or one Very Large one). The students need to drink regularly on hot days to keep hydrated.

  • A change of clothes and creek shoes (hard-soled water shoes, old sneakers, etc.) are needed at school every day. On hot days, even those children who insist they will not want to get wet will do so if they appropriately gear up for the opportunity.
