Dear Second Grade Families,
Happy Tuesday! Last week we began our first English Language Arts block of the year. We reviewed short vowel sounds and then dove into the long vowel sounds of E and A. We discussed the following vowel teams: ee, ea, ay, and ai. We heard wonderful stories about noble people from Italy and Ireland that helped bring our vowel sounds to life. We continued daily mental math and phonics practice, and sang a new song we learned during circle time!
Please continue to have your child practice the big 100 sight words at home when time allows. They can make flash cards of the words, review pre-made flash cards, or practice writing and reading a few words a day with you. These words are repeated regularly in reading and writing activities and knowing how to read and spell them greatly aids success in both areas and also increases comprehension.
