Dear Second Grade Families,
Happy Tuesday! Last week we continued our first English Language Arts block of the year. We discussed long vowel sounds of A and I. We noticed when a word ends with a silent “e,” such as “lake,” the e will make the vowel says it’s name (the long vowel sound.) We also looked at examples of “y” making a long i sound. We heard wonderful stories about noble people, such as Werburga from England and Rumi from Afghanistan, that helped bring our vowel sounds to life.
Second grade is leading our school wide compost project with help of Environmental Education teacher, Mr. Matan. Each day the children gather compost and take it to the composting area near the garden. They are loving having this new found responsibility at the farm!
Reminders:
-Wednesday, September 7th is Parent night for second grade
-Saturday, September 17 is a Community Workday from 9am-12pm.
-Inclement weather can occur unexpectedly. Please send your child with rain gear each day as a precaution. Thank you for your help with this!
Warm regards,
Ki Hayley
