Second Grade: September 6 - 9

Dear Second Grade Families,

Happy Tuesday! Last week we completed our first English Language Arts block of the year. We discussed the vowel sounds of “oo,” “ow” and “ah.” Additionally, the students have been adoring a lovely read aloud, “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” by Grace Lin. We continued daily mental math, phonics practice, and bean bag activities for motor development.

This week, we will begin our first math block of the year. We will review and lean into our times tables from 1 to 12 using ribbon and yarn geometry. We will hear stories from West Africa to bring this content to life, such as Nkosnati and the Dragon, and tales of Anansi the Spider.

In music class, students have begun to learn how to play a penny whistle! They are enjoying learning the names of notes and how to play new songs. Penny whistles will need to come to school every Monday and Wednesday for music class. Thank you for your help with this!
